THX currently offers two principal services:
Pharmaceutical testing
The THX laboratories are working with select global pharmaceutical companies to treat cells with proprietary cancer inhibitors and perform blinded signal pathway analysis. The assays provide sets of biomarkers with critical information about drug activity and selectivity that identify those patients most likely to respond to specific drugs, thus decreasing the time and cost of clinical trials. Additional relationships and collaborations with pharmaceutical and biotech companies are being developed. These will involve drug screening, data mining and clinical trial applications
Personalized cancer treatment
Theranostics will begin providing assay-based results that enable physicians to tailor optimal patient therapies based on analysis of tumor cell circuitry and identification of ‘renegade pathways’ that give the cancer a survival advantage and allow it to grow, unimpeded. The services will use the RPMA platform to measure protein drug targets in biopsy samples, allowing physicians to customize chemotherapy to the unique molecular profile of each patient’s tumor. Pathologists and clinical oncologists will send completed lysates or tissue specimens enclosed in a new molecular fixative (also developed by THX) that is significantly more effective than existing formalin-based solutions and rapidly preserves tissue at room temperature. Theranostics will then provide a report listing the activated drug targets in a patient’s tumor, a capability that can lead to a reduction in unnecessary toxicity and side effects, improvement in the patient’s quality of life and a higher treatment success rate.
Development of the proprietary fixative is part of the firm’s strategy to work closely with medical device manufacturers to develop efficient tissue collection and transportation systems.
